David Goldschmidt

Professor of Practice & Executive Officer

David Goldschmidt is Professor of Practice and has served as the Executive Officer for the Computer Science Department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute since January 2012. David teaches systems-based courses at all levels for the department, in particular Computer Architecture and Operating Systems (CAOS), a C/Linux-focused course required of all computer science majors, and Large-Scale Programming and Testing (LSPT), a communication-intensive project-based course centered on software testing and scaling up all aspects of software development. David also serves as Associate Director of the Rensselaer Center for Open Source (RCOS), a large group of peer-mentored industrious students working on open source projects. Intersecting all of the above, David is very interested in ethical computing, ethical algorithms, ethical software deployment, and the like. Administratively, David is responsible for overseeing undergraduate advising, handling course scheduling, managing curriculum changes, and serving as the department's degree clearance officer.
