The Joseph Flaherty Lecture Series

This lecture series was established by Martin L. Shoffstall, '82, along with colleagues and friends of Dr. Joseph E. Flaherty in honor of his illustrious career at RPI. He was the founding chair of the CS department at RPI.

Each year, the series invites a person of international stature to give a campus-wide lecture in various topics in computing. We've had the honor of hosting the following distinguished past speakers:

  • Jack Dongarra, Turing Award (2021), The University of Tennessee, Knoxville
  • Barbara Liskov, Turing Award (2008), MIT
  • James Demmell, NAE (1999)/NAS(2011), The University of California, Berkeley
